Are you wondering where to stay when you visit Kansas City? We’ve got you!

When visiting a city, you want to make sure you have the best experience possible. Deciding where to stay can be a significant factor in that.

Most importantly, you want to make sure you are in a great area that is close to where you’ll be spending your time.

Another important consideration is staying somewhere with exceptional hospitality.

As locals, we like to recommend places that are uniquely Kansas City – and when considering that, we keep coming back to our downtown and midtown boutique hotels.

There’s something neat about a boutique hotel – from the lovely ambiance to the historical significance that many of them hold.

In this list, we are sharing the best boutique hotels in Kansas City. These are the ones that we personally recommend to our out of town visitors when they come for a stay.

Best Boutique Hotels in Kansas City

We promise – these are the ones you want to stay at!

1. Hotel Kansas City

Neighborhood: Power & Light

There are several reasons we love Hotel Kansas City.

Even as locals, we find ourselves drawn here. Within the basement is one of the best restaurants in downtown, The Town Company.

And there’s Nighthawk, a swanky speakeasy with live music.

The building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Back in the day when it was a gentleman’s social club, it saw the likes of Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Being in a 1920’s building, it is historic with ornate decor, yet it has all the modern amenities you need.

Planning to stay out late? This hotel is located close to the Power & Light nightlife district.

2. The Raphael Hotel

Neighborhood: Country Club Plaza

Many visitors choose to stay at the Country Club Plaza – and we support that! It’s a lovely area with walkable access to shops and several great restaurants.

If you’re staying on The Plaza and looking for romantic, elegant vibes, we recommend The Raphael.

It is located just across the pretty bridges that cross over Brush Creek, which runs next to The Plaza.

Built in 1927, this hotel has lovely old world charm. The hotel features spacious guest rooms with luxury bedding, and in our experience, helpful staff.

Their on-site restaurant, Chaz on the Plaza, is one of the more romantic restaurants in the city, frequented by locals for date nights. In addition to exceptional menu offerings, the restaurant features live jazz music in their lounge.

3. Truitt Boutique Hotel

Neighborhood: Westport

While most of the hotels on this list are on the larger side, if you’re looking for a smaller, intimate space, The Truitt is your choice.

This lovely boutique hotel has a bed and breakfast feel. Located in a historic home, the space is beautifully decorated and quite cozy.

Located just outside of Westport, it is right in the heart of many midtown Kansas City sites, like the Nelson Atkins Art Museum and Country Club Plaza.

4. Crossroads Hotel

Neighborhood: Crossroads Arts District

The Crossroads Hotel is beloved by locals and visitors alike.

Situated in a historic building that has been meticulously renovated, this boutique hotel offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern aesthetics. Think industrial-chic design with high ceilings, concrete floors, and local art.

From Crossroads Hotel, located in the Crossroads Arts District, you’ll be within walking distance from some of the city’s best restaurants as well as local breweries and distilleries.

The hotel features one of our top recommended Italian restaurants in town, Lazia.

The hotel bar, XR, is bustling with locals in the evenings – chandeliers, leather and suede upholstery, creatively crafted cocktails. You’ll feel pretty swanky.

Percheron, the trendy rooftop bar, has panoramic views of the city skyline.

5. The Fontaine Hotel

Neighborhood: Country Club Plaza

For a Country Club Plaza stay that feels artsy, we recommend The Fontaine.

It’s a luxury boutique hotel situated on the western end of The Plaza.

The Fontaine mirrors the focus on beautiful design and artwork that Country Club Plaza is known for.

The hotel features custom mosaic insets, marble floors, intricately carved wood paneling, hand-blown Venetian glass chandeliers, and Renaissance artwork.

Visitors looking for an elegant stay will be pleased with their time at The Fontaine – in fact, it was named one of the Top 20 Midwest Hotels by Conde Nast!

The Fontaine is a short walk into the heart of The Plaza, and also features a rooftop pool deck with private cabanas.

In addition to the pool, guests can enjoy craft cocktails on the rooftop overlooking The Plaza’s beautiful Spanish-inspired architecture.

6. The President Hotel

Neighborhood: Power & Light

You can’t miss The President – it is part of the city’s skyline, peeking out amongst the modern buildings.

Built in 1926, this upscale hotel is recognized by the Historic Hotels of America.

As locals, we like visiting the hotel’s Drum Room lounge, which has seen the likes of Frank Sinatra and Patsy Cline.

Although it has historic charm, the hotel is modern and well-appointed.
