Where Is Westport?
Westport is located at Broadway Boulevard and Westport Road in midtown, just north of the Country Club Plaza, south of downtown, and west of Hyde Park.
There is Old Westport, which is a walkable district that spreads out over a few blocks, as well as shops and restaurants just beyond the main district that are worth the short walk.
What is Kansas City’s Westport known for?
Originally called “West Port,” the neighborhood got its name as it was the westernmost village where settlers stocked up before venturing into the Kansas Territory. Today the neighborhood is known for its eclectic shops and nightlife, as well as annual events.
Westport St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations
Westport is a popular district for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The area comes alive with the Westport St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a vibrant event filled with creative floats, music, and dancing. The parade route stretches from Linwood & Broadway Boulevards to 43rd street – that’s 20 blocks!
In addition to the parade, the bars and restaurants get into the St. Patty’s spirit, making for a full day of partying and green beer.
Is Westport In Kansas City Safe?
As Kansas City locals, we don’t typically stay out in Westport too late. There have been occasional instances of crime in Westport late at night.
On Friday and Saturday nights, the district shuts the streets to vehicles and becomes pedestrian traffic only. From 11pm – 3am, there is a required safety scan to get into the bar district.
Enhanced security screening involves patrons emptying their pockets, opening their purses or bags, and walking through a metal detector. Once cleared by the metal detector and shown a valid ID reflecting the age of 21 or older, you are free to enter the district. This has been taking place since 2018.
